The Quy Nhon Port Joint Stock Company celebrated its 45th anniversary and welcomed the 11 millionth tonne of cargo through the port in 2020 on December 30.
Established on January 19, 1976 under a Ministry of Transport decision, the Quy Nhon city-based port in the central province of Binh Dinh has developed strongly over the past 45 years to place itself as a strategic seaport of Vietnam.
With its favourable geographical position, status as an important traffic hub and a gateway to the East Sea (South China Sea) in the South Central Coast, the port can serve ships of up to 30,000 tonnes and those offloading of up to 50,000 tonnes.
In 2010, cargo through the port reached 4.5 million tonnes, more than double its design capacity. In 2015, the figure reached 7.5 million tonnes and then 9.1 million tonnes four years later, an increase of more than 9% compared to 2018.
In 2020, total cargo through the port reached a record 11 million tonnes, up nearly 32% compared to 2018, bringing profit of VND146 billion, up over 21% compared to 2018.
This year, Quy Nhon Port is also one of the seaports with the most effective wharf operation, five times higher than its design capacity.
In 2020, Quy Nhon Port launched a direct transport service route to Northeast Asian countries to connect Vietnam’s Central Highlands with the Republic of Korea, Japan and China with an average frequency of one vessel weekly.
The port has helped boost the export and import turnover of Binh Dinh to reach more than US$1 billion in 2020.
With employees numbering over 800 people, average labour productivity at Quy Nhon Port has increased significantly with 82 tonnes/person/shift, an increase of 21% compared to 2019. The average income of employees has also reached VND15.2 million/person/month. It also contributed VND65.7 billion to the local budget in 2020.
Quy Nhon Port plans to expand its base to nearly 90 ha, triple the current scale, while focusing on improving its cargo handling capacity, business efficiency and applying modern technology in production processes to provide customers with the best service.
Thanks to its outstanding achievements over the past 45 years, Quy Nhon Port has been honoured with noble orders from the Party and State, including the First, Second and Third-Class Independence Orders and the First and Second-Class Labour Orders.
